METHODS & LIMITATIONS
The calculation. The illustration. The limits.

Calculated positions. An illustrated view.
The atlas uses geocentric Lahiri-sidereal calculations. Sky view uses observer-centred coordinates and catalogue stars. Body sizes, diagram spacing, brightness and atmospheric colour are illustrated. Results depend on the recorded date, time, time zone and place; date-only records retain possible placements. Models and input details can contain errors, especially near region boundaries. These are personal keepsakes, not observation or navigation charts.
1. Two views, two reference frames
The atlas and celestial portrait use Earth-centred Lahiri-sidereal directions. Radial distances and body sizes are composed for legibility. Sky view uses the recorded time and birthplace to calculate observer-centred positions, local daylight and the Moon’s phase. It omits below-horizon bodies and uses catalogue stars. Both are illustrated renderings rather than photographs or verified records of what a person saw.
2. Calculation checks and their limits
The calculation pipeline uses Kriya Ephemeris 0.3.0 for chart positions and Astronomy Engine 2.1.19 for sky-view coordinates and lunar illumination. An independent offline reference check against Swiss Ephemeris/Moshier covered 44 dates from 1800 to 2100, with Ascendants checked at four locations. Maximum sampled differences were 1.46 arcminutes for the physical bodies, 9.16 arcminutes for the lunar nodes and 0.57 arcminutes for the Ascendant. These sampled differences are not universal error bounds or a guarantee. The Lahiri reference implementation is approximate, and placements near a sign, Nakshatra or Pada boundary can differ between engines. Printed decimal places describe computed values, not measured certainty.
3. Calculations and artistic choices have limitations
Outputs depend on the details entered, time-zone and calendar handling, source catalogues, calculation methods, assumptions, software and rendering. Some features are enlarged, reduced, cropped, repositioned in illustrative radial lanes, simplified or omitted for readability and composition. Weather, terrain, buildings, light pollution, glare, atmospheric conditions and other observational effects may be absent or simplified. Showing an object does not establish that it could be seen with the eye; omitting it does not establish that it was absent from the sky. References to calculated positions or real catalogue data describe a method, not a guarantee of accuracy or visibility.
4. Do not rely on these outputs for practical decisions
Do not use this content for navigation, observation or telescope planning, scientific measurement, research validation, equipment calibration, historical verification or any professional or safety-related decision. Verify information independently using appropriate authoritative sources and qualified advice before relying on it. Astrological symbols and readings are interpretive traditions, not established scientific personality assessments, predictions, evidence of causation or a promise of outcomes.
5. Warranty and liability limitations
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the service and all content, images, calculations and downloads are provided “as is” and “as available”, without express or implied warranties of accuracy, completeness, reliability, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. To that same extent, the sky then disclaims liability for loss, damage or expense arising from errors, omissions, use of, or reliance on these outputs. These limitations are subject to the consumer rights and other liabilities that applicable law does not permit us to exclude or limit.
6. Your mandatory legal rights remain
Nothing in this notice excludes, restricts or waives any consumer right, statutory guarantee, remedy or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or waived. Any limitation applies only to the extent permitted by the law that applies to you. If a provision cannot be enforced, that does not remove your mandatory protections.
7. Applies across the product and its outputs
This notice applies to the website and app, demonstrations, sky views, celestial portraits, charts, stated positions, readings and exported images or calculation files. A product name, poetic caption or use of a personal date does not promise an exact depiction of the sky. Keep the accuracy notice with images or files you save or share.
